Need A Job? There Are 48,500 Unfilled Jobs In Alberta, Mostly In Small And Medium-Sized Businesses

Help WantedThat’s according to new data from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.

The organization’s latest Help Wanted report found that the job vacancy rate in the province fell from 3.0 per cent in the second quarter of this year to 2.9 per cent in the third quarter. About 1,800 jobs were filled over this period with about 48,500 jobs remaining unfilled in the province.

“Alberta’s private sector job vacancy rate continues to fall dramatically,” said Amber Ruddy, the CFIB’s Alberta director. “There has clearly been a weakening in the labour market, yet thousands of jobs still remain available in smaller firms.

Job seekers would benefit by focusing their efforts on the opportunities that currently exist in local small and medium-sized businesses.Ruddy

Vacancy rates are defined as total vacancies, divided by the sum of total employment and vacancies.
